Shanti Education Nepal (SEI Nepal) selects its school projects on the basis of the following criteria:
- The school has to be a public school – those funded by the government and/or funded through a trust.
- The student number in the primary level (up to grade 5) has to be 100; 150 in lower secondary level (up to grade 8 ) and 200 in the secondary level (up to grade 10) and 250 in the higher secondary level (up to grade 12).
- The school has to submit a request letter as approved by its school management committee. It also has to submit a recommendation from the District Education Office mentioning the need of the said project(s).
- The school should be at least half an hour’s walking distance away from the nearby school.
- At least 30 percent of the total cost should be borne by the community – in form of cash and kind.
- The school should provide a written plan to sustain the school in the future.
- The school should participate in the activities organized by SEI Nepal.
- The school should provide periodic updates about its progress to SEI Nepal
