Guru Lower Secondary School

Introduction:

Guru Lower Secondary School, in Bukhel village development committee ward number 1, Lalitpur district, was established in 1980. The school has 13 staff serving more than 200 students from nursery to grade eight. The school is around 40 kilometers away from Lalitpur ring road, Satdobato.

Need:

The school runs nine different classes – from nursery to grade eight. Hence it requires nine different classrooms to conduct classes. However, it has two buildings with eight classrooms. Taking into account that a room is allocated as a teachers’ room to conduct administrative activities, there are seven rooms available for nine different classes. Hence, the school is forced to conduct multi-grade teaching (having students from two grades) in at least two classrooms.

To address this, the Bukhel village development committee had provided assistance to the school to construct a two room concrete building. As the funds available was not sufficient to complete the building, the school could only finish up the frame for the building (see picture above) and classes cannot be conducted in this building yet.

Solution:

The school needs external support to complete the construction of two rooms in this building. The estimated cost of this project is around NRs. 400,000 (around US$ 4,600). The community has agreed to share a portion of the estimated cost of this project.

After the start of work, the building is expected to be completed within 3 months.
